No students were injured but one of the two drivers died in a crash between a minivan and a school bus earlier this week. The accident took place in the morning on the way to school. Police said that the victim was turning left in her minivan when she struck the school bus. The other driver and passengers all appear to be uninjured, although several sought medical attention as a precaution. Currently, there is no evidence indicating the specific cause of the bus crash.
Collisions with larger vehicles, such as buses or semi trucks, can be very dangerous for regular cars. Auto accidents are the leading cause of accidental wrongful death. Wrongful death suits can be filed in cases where the family of the victim of an accidental death involving negligence decides to seek payment for their loss. Compensation generally includes payment to cover funeral expenses, medical bills or lost future income.
California law entitles heirs and dependents to payment for their loss if it was caused by negligence. Often, insurance companies for one or all of the parties involved in a bus or car accident will attempt to resolve any liabilities quickly after the accident. However, this may cause victims or their families to accept a situation that is not in their best interest.
Having a dedicated advocate during a stressful and difficult time can help families of victims get the compensation they are entitled to. Attorneys can also help gather the right type of evidence after an accident and consult with specialists to determine likely causes. If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to negligent driving, advise them to contact an experienced attorney.
